MN Rush Families,

Late last week the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) felt it was in the best interest of everyone involved to cancel the soccer season. Upon learning this news, the club began to look into possible training options for our players. Through discussions with numerous clubs, our insurance and legal experts, the board has found it prudent to cancel the current season. This gives us great sadness as we all want our children playing the game they love. We all recognize the numerous benefits sports give our lives; however, the MN Rush Board feels there are too many risks and unknowns to carry forward at this time.

Refunds

We are more than just a soccer club. We truly feel we are part of a large family, both here in Rochester and with soccer families across SE Minnesota. We are all in this together. The club has had expenses that we will not be able to recover.  These include MYSA fees, insurance, credit card fees and staff payroll. The MN Rush Board has made the decision to offer 100% refund to help families in need .  The board has voted to take a major financial hit in order to help our families. By not charging families for the expenses and staff time, the club will need to significantly deplete its Field Development Fund and Rainy-Day Account in order to cover the costs. However, even with those measures we do anticipate the furloughing of staff. All we ask is that you consider donating any portion of your registration fee to help offset these hardships.

Refund Options- Please keep in mind we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. If you donate any portion, we will provide a letter of donation for your taxes.

-          Option 1- Refund

-          Option 2- Donate ½ of the registration fee

-          Option 3- Donate Full Registration

-          Option 4- Donate anything you feel comfortable

-          Option 5- Credit for future season minus the fixed expenses shared above.

Optional Training Sessions

There are a lot of unknowns about what youth sports in Minnesota may or may not be able to do this summer. We are hopeful that we will be allowed to hold group training sessions yet this summer. We will be in touch about this opportunity for your kids to work on soccer skills. In the meantime, continue staying fit hiking, biking, paddling, running and enjoying the natural beauty of our area as many of you are already doing.

Action Steps

Please email (Kevin Lowery) the following answers:

-          Child’s name

-          Refund/donation request amount

We can’t thank you enough for all your patience during this unprecedented time.  We hope and pray your family is safe.  If there is anything we can do, please let me know.  We are hopeful we will be able to offer a fall league for the younger players, but only time will tell.

Sincerely,

Kevin Lowery

Minnesota Rush REC Philosophy

Minnesota Rush REC soccer program is designed to teach players soccer skills, teamwork and sportsmanship in an environment where participation and fun are the focus, not competition.

The philosophy of the Recreational Soccer program is to ensure that all youth in Rochester and the surrounding communities have the opportunity to learn the game of soccer. The program provides a low-cost, safe and structured soccer experience for all area youth in grades K-9 and can serve as a starting point before moving to more competitive programs.

General Information

Through the Minnesota Rush Rec league, teams play other teams from Rochester and the nearby surrounding communities. To encourage a fun and developmental atmosphere, each child plays at least half of each game, no matter the skill level. Scores and league standings are not recorded.

In the spring Rec season, all grades play in league play.  Teams are formed based on grade and gender.

  • Kindergarten teams will practice once a week and all other teams will practice twice a week.  (see practice schedule below)
  • For Rochester players, each team's practice location and time is dependent on the head coach.   When possible, we place players on teams that practice in the part of town that the family prefers (i.e. NW, NE, SE, SW) However, this is all determined by the number of coaches we have for each area.
  • All games are held on Saturdays in Rochester
  • Teams will play games against other teams of the same grade(s) and gender.
  • Each player must wear shoes, shin guards, socks that completely cover the shin guards, shorts or long pants and a team shirt.
  • Soccer shoes are strongly recommended but shoes are not required to have cleats. Tennis shoes are allowed. If the shoes are not soccer shoes but they do have cleats, they must not have any sharp edges. Shoes with toe cleats are not allowed.
  • Glasses must be secured by a strap and no jewelry can be worn.

Practice Location

The committee will do it's best to keep your player in the quadrant (NW, NE, SW, SE) in which they live.  Practicing in your quadrent is NOT guaranteed! This is dependent on the number of coaches that volunteer to coach. For example, if we have 40 2nd girls from the SE and only one coach, not all the players will be in the SE.

If you register for the REC program you are agreeing that you will practice anywhere in the Rochester City Limits.  REFUNDS WILL NOT BE GIVEN if you do not get the location you want.

Outlying communities
Practice location and nights for teams in Byron, DE, KM, PEM, PIZM and St Charles may vary. Contact your local coordinator (see the Rec Contacts page) for more information.
